I hear it all the time when talking with small business owners who want to get better visibility in the Search Engines, particularly Google.

They read about some tactic years ago or heard someone talk about a ‘secret’ to getting top rankings. Or they got a great ‘deal’ from an SEO firm who emailed or cold-called them, but aren’t seeing the results they had been promised. (Or worse, they have disappeared from the search results because of shady or out-dated tactics.)

SEO, or search engine optimization, is a fast-changing field that requires constant learning. Google is continuously tweaking their ranking algorithm and often does major updates that can fundamentally change the search results landscape.
